About the role Anthropic is seeking an exceptional People Legal Counsel who will closely partner with our People team, business and technical stakeholders to build and manage employment programs that enable high performers to achieve their best work. The ideal candidate pairs law firm and in-house experience, with the ability to develop scalable processes and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams in a fast-paced and fun environment. Responsibilities Advise the People team and managers on a wide range of U.S. legal matters, including compensation, benefits, performance management, leaves of absences, and contingent worker issues Implement and manage compliant employment programs to create a culture of high performance, and alignment to Anthropic’s values and People philosophy Craft clear and comprehensive written guidance, policies, and communications that effectively translate complex employment law concepts into actionable frameworks for technical and business stakeholders across the organization Leverage your experience to proactively identify and mitigate employment legal risks Liaise and manage relationships with outside counsel, as necessary Stay up to date on relevant employment laws, regulations, industry trends, and disseminate to key stakeholders these developments and their implications to Anthropic’s mission and business Minimum qualifications J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar Substantial experience practicing employment law, with a blend of law firm and in-house experience Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance to non-lawyers on complex employment matters Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters concurrently Sound judgment, high integrity, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach Preferred qualifications Active membership in the California or New York state bar 7+ years of employment law experience Experience at a technology company or other fast-paced, high-growth environment Experience advising on international employment legal matters Comfort operating in ambiguity and building programs and processes from the ground up Role-specific policy: For this role, we expect all staff to be able to work from our New York office at least 3 days a week, though we encourage you to apply even if you might need some flexibility for an interim period of time. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
